Team Penske kept the superlative form in the 2nd Practice session, as Will Power sat atop the timesheets with a lap time of 1:47.440s at COTA. Will Power's lap time was the fastest so far of the weekend.

Chip Ganassi Racing's rookie, Felix Rosenqvist came 2nd while Honda powered Andretti Autosport's Alexander Rossi slotted himself into the 3rd spot.
All the teams were given a chance to use the softer red banded compound, which offers more speed but less grip and faster wear. While Power managed to secure the top spot, his Penske teammate, Simon Pagenaud recorded the 7th fastest lap time, which was a 1:48.272s.
Ryan Hunter-Reay and Ed Jones were 4th and 5th respectively with Zach Veach following the duo in 6th. Takuma Sato went 8th fastest, and clocked a lap time of 1:48.348s, his lap time was followed by Josef Newgarden, as the St. Petersburg winner was -101 secs slower than Sato.
Sebastien Bourdais sealed the top 10, with him lapping the Circuit Of The Americas in 1:48.458s. Indy Lights Champion and debutant, Patricio O'Ward managed to get the 11th fastest lap time while the Canadian, James Hinchcliffe ended up 12th, 1.09 second slower than the Penske of Power.
At the bottom of the timesheets was Tony Kanaan, who could only record a lap time of 1:51.690s, which was way off the fastest lap time of the whole weekend so far.
With the Practice 2 done and dusted, an additional warm-up session was topped by Simon Pagenaud, hence keeping Team Penske and Chevrolet atop all 3 sessions so far at COTA.
