Stoffel Vandoorne was quickest of the rest in the single Free Practice session for the Saudi ePrix this morning, while Edoardo Mortara's crash even more reduced the time that the rain did in morning.

The HWA driver and former Formula 1 Driver for McLaren did a 1:18.868, late in the 35-minute session to go quickest as a rookie.

This came after both FP1 and FP2 were cancelled, due to wet weather conditions, resulting in a limited single Free Practice session being held after the track dried and marshalls cleared the track further.

The session began with three laps behind the Safety Car, while drivers had around 15 minutes of green flag running after Venturi driver Edoardo Mortara crashed into the barrier, locking up at just before turn 5, running wide and causing a red flag for rest of the session.

He appeared to have a problem with the brakes on his Venturi VFE-05 as the lock-up went unsuccessful.

Sam Bird was second fastest for Virgin Racing with a lap time just 0.177 seconds off Stoffel, ahead of Sebastien Buemi and Oliver Rowland.

Felipe Massa (Venturi) and Felix Rosenqvist (Mahindra) both had separate incidents at Turn 1 late in the session, leaving Rosenqvist with little nose damage on his car. The Swedish driver will retire from Formula E this weekend.

Qualifying Format Altered, Shrinked to 2 Groups

FIA decided to change the qualifying schedule and format, which is set to get underway at 1:25 pm Pakistan Time.

It will be made up of Group A and B, 15 minutes each instead of the regular four-group system, with Groups 1 and 3 combined into a new Group A and Groups 2 and 4 in Group B.

The grid will be decided by combining the results from the two sessions, with the fastest driver comparing both sessions taking pole position.

The usual Super Pole shootout won’t be held.
