
2019 IndyCar debutant, Felix Rosenqvist topped the 1st practice session of the season opener, Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. Felix clocked a lap time of 1:01.821 secs in his Honda powered Chip Ganassi.
While Andretti Autosport's Ryan Hunter-Reay managed to slot himself in the 2nd spot on the timesheets, as he lapped the track with a 1:02.063 secs time, it was Marcus Ericsson, who finished 3rd, and hence made it two Swedish, and debutant drivers locking the top 3.
Reigning champion, Scott Dixon was 4th fastest in the end. The New Zealander recorded a lap time of 1:02.130 secs around the streets of St. Petersburg. He was followed by his previous year's title rival, Alexander Rossi, who went 0.017 secs slower. Although, Dixon managed a quick time, he could only manage a meagre amount of 15 laps throughout the session.
Takuma Sato followed in 6th with Newgarden and Graham Rahal finishing 7th and 8th respectively. The final two spots in the top 10 were secured by Penske's Will Power and Andretti Autosport's Zack Veach. The defending Indy 500 winner, Will Power was almost half a second slower than Rosenqvist.
The Practice 1 was abrupted with just a minute to go, when Chevrolet powered Dragon Speed of Ben Hanley stopped at turn-4 of its 15th lap.

The Practice 2 will begin on 12:15 AM (March 9th) of Pakistan Standard Time and 02:15 PM EST (March 8th).
