4-time Champ Car winner Sebastien Bourdais will participate in two of the many races at Long Beach this weekend, competing in both IMSA's Grand Prix of Long Beach for Ford Chip Ganassi Racing as well as IndyCar's Grand Prix of Long Beach for Dale Coyne Racing.
The IndyCar star will replace Joey Hand in #66 Ford GT for the 1 hour and 40 minutes sprint race, due to take place on Saturday shortly after IndyCar's qualifying session.
According to team owner Chip Ganassi (who also owns the team in IndyCar), Joey Hand has "flu-like symptoms", declared unfit by the team for third round of 2019 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season.
The replacement means Bourdais will join Ford for third consecutive race this season, after finishing seventh and second at Daytona 24 Hours and Twelve Hours of Sebring respectively.
"Although we’re disappointed for Joey, we’re also fortunate to have someone like Sébastien who can step right in this weekend,” said Mark Rushbrook, director of Ford Performance Motorsports.
“We grateful Dale Coyne Racing will allow him to do double-duty with the IndyCar race this weekend. Seb already has so many miles in the Ford GT, and knows the team and crew so well, that it’s the perfect solution.”
The team currently sits third in the championship, behind Porsche and BMW.
