
Race 1 winner and reigning Supercars champion Scott McLaughlin went fastest in Qualifying session as one of his rivals Jamie Whincup didn't make it to Top 10 for Shootout.
The Australian set 1:19.462 ahead of Chaz Mostert and Cameron Waters of Tickford Racing.
Several drivers including David Reynolds and Nick Percat made it to Top 3 in first 15 minutes of the session.
The time to beat was 1:19.7 from McLaughlin as Waters and De Pasquale slotted to 2nd and 3rd in the last two minutes.
McLaughlin in the mean time, further lowered the times to 1:19.462, emerging as a provisional pole sitter.
Six Mustangs made it into Top 10 Shootout with Top 3 secured by Mustangs in Qualifying while McLaughlin's title rivals, Whincup and Van Gisbergen, settled in 12th and 10th respectively.
Nick Percat finished best of the rest for Holden in 4th place behind McLaughlin, Waters and Mostert but ahead of Fabian Coulthard.
David Reynolds had a good run, jumping from back of the pack to Top 3 before Cam Waters and Nick Percat beat him to sixth place ahead of De Pasquale and Davison.
Todd Hazelwood impressed the team and crowd with an astonishing ninth position, making it to Top 10 shootout for the very first time.
"It’s a great reward for everyone," Hazelwood said.
"The guys were still here at 4am this morning trying to sort out everything.
"I’m just absolutely stoked. To do this in-front of the home crowd is really special."
Van Gisbergen found problems with his Holden Commodore but pushed the car to secure a place in shootout ahead of Tim Slade by one-tenths of a second.
In 12th place was Van Gisbergen's teammate in the Triple-Eight Engineering car, losing the places later in the session despite a top 10 position in early stages.
"The car is good, I just made a mistake down at the hairpin at a critical time," Whincup said
"On the second set of tyres, you’ve got to go hard, my car was on for one lap and I just made an error."
Rookie Macauley Jones came back after a drastic crash yesterday that damaged his car and made him sit out of the race. The mechanics repaired the car overnight as Jones settled in 21st place for his father's Brad Jones Racing team.
James Golding will get a three place grid penalty for blocking James Courtney, Golding getting the 18th fastest time while Courtney settling into 15th.
Mark Winterbottom experienced power steering problems due to rack change, as "Frosty" failed to set a time in his IRWIN Racing car.
