Oliver Jarvis officially beats the lap record in Qualifying

#911 Porsche 911 RSR got the Pole Position in GTLM

#77 Mazda RT24-P beat the long-time record by P.J Jones set in early-90s.


Weeks after setting the unofficial lap record around Daytona during the Roar Before 24 testing, Oliver Jarvis did as expected and took the pole position for #77 Mazda with a lap record of 1:33.685.


The time is almost two-tenths quicker than PJ Jones' 1993 lap record in Toyota for GTP class.


#7 Acura was closest to Mazda in fight for pole, setting 1:33.873 by Ricky Taylor. #6 Acura was third in the DPi class as Juan Pablo Montoya set 1:34.095 to claim third.


The last in the Top 4 was the other Mazda of Jonathan Bomarito who stopped before the session and got beaten by the Acuras.


A notable incident was that of the #5 Action Express, as smoke came out of the car and Filipe Albuquerque stopped into the pits to retire from the session. He will start the race down in 15th place, just behind the 11 DPis and 4 LMP2s in last.


In LMP2, James Allen was quickest in #81 DragonSpeed setting 1:35.904 in the ORECA Gibson, beating Car #52 of Gabriel Aubry in 2nd.


Nick Tandy took pole in GTLM class with #911 Porsche setting 1:42.257, setting a new record for GTLM. Up close was the Danish Jan Magnussen, three-tenths off the lead in #3 Corvette.


Ryan Briscoe completed Top 3 in the #67 Ford GT with 1:42.634. #62 Risi Competizione was fourth quickest as Davide Rigon set 1:42.712 in the Ferrari 488.


#66 Ford GT suffered problems as Joey Hand complained a loss of power steering. He ended up sixth.


Onto the final class, Marco Gomes was the quickest in #13 Via Italia Ferrari setting 1:45.27 in the 488 GT3. It's a third consecutive pole for Ferrari at Daytona.


Second in GTD was #33 Mercedes-AMG of Riley Motorsport Team, setting 1:45.324. Trent Hindman completed Top 3 with #86 Meyer Shanks Racing.
