The 2018 IWSC Champion did a quickest lap of 1:36.108 in the #31 Cadillac DPi-V.R for Action Express Racing.
The track was drying but was still a bit damp after a heavy rain in the morning.
A few seconds off the leader was the sister Whelen Engineering car with Filipe Albuquerque behind the wheel in #5 Cadillac DPi.
The Top 3 was completed by Tristan Vautier in #85 JDC-Miller by 1:37.595. Meanwhile Jonathan Bamarito was the last in the DPi class to set a competitive lap with Mazda Joest. The difference between the leader and 5th quickest DPi car was more than 10 seconds.
Henrik Hedman was quickest in the LMP2, as the DragonSpeed finished 1-2.
Fred Mako was fifth quickest in the overall and fastest in the GTLM class, setting a laptime of 1:45.334 in #911 Porsche 911 RSR.
Behind him was the rivalling #912 Porsche of Mathieu Jaminet, eight-tenths off the GTLM leader in #912.
Joey Hand was third in GTLM class in the Ford GT, but way off the pace from the leading Porsches.
After the session ended, a 15-minute practice session for exclusively Bronze/Silver GTD drivers saw Corey Lewis setting the fastest GTD time by a 1:46.677 in Paul Miller Racing behind the wheel of #48 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo.
A notable incident was the spinning of the Corvette C7.R due to low grip. The car spun a little but didn't suffer any damage and continued the session.
