The current Formula 3 Euro champion and the son of the Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher, Mick Schumacher is rumored to join the Scuderia Ferrari young driver academy soon. There are reports circulating in the Italian media suggesting that the young Schumacher had offers from both the Mercedes and Ferrari with the F3 Euro champion opting for the latter.

By joining Ferrari, Mick Schumacher will be walking in the footsteps of his great 7 times world champion father who drove for the Italian marque and achieved immense, career defining success with them. Ferrari together with Michael Schumacher dominated the sport for 5 years straight. While Schumacher won 5 back to back drivers' championships from 2000 to 2004; his team (Ferrari) won 6 consecutive constructors' titles from 1999 to 2004. Marking it as the most dominant period in Ferrari's history and making Schumacher their most successful driver ever.

Earlier this year, both Toto Wolff and Maurizio Arrivabene had offered and opened their doors for Mick Schumacher to step up the ladder and join their young driver programmes. It's worth noticing here that Mick's father, Michael drove for Mercedes-AMG as well from 2010 up until his permanent retirement in 2012. Hence it makes all the sense for Mercedes alongside Ferrari to offer an opportunity to Schumacher junior.
"This year he won the European Formula 3 with a Mercedes engine, and this is a great result, but it is not part of the young Mercedes program," said Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff. "I have no doubt that he has the potential to become a successful Formula 1 driver. Maybe one day he will race for us, maybe not."
"With a name that is part of Ferrari's history, it is obvious that for him the Maranello door will always be open" said Ferrari team principal Maurizio Arrivabene. "But let it grow without pressure."

Mick Schumacher had a successful campaign in the 2018 Formula 3 Euro season with his Prema Racing team. Though the first half of the season didn't bear much fruits leaving Schumacher no where near the summit, actual success followed in the second half of the season when Prema finally sorted out their car issues and Mick won multiple races to secure the title. The triumph catapulted him into Formula 2, where he would be racing in the upcoming 2019 season for Prema.
