McLaren Racing has confirmed the joining date for James Key, who will serve in the capacity of the Technical Director at the MTC.
The British engineer is now set to begin his term as Technical Director of McLaren from March 23rd, 2019.
In a statement released on McLaren's website, it reads:
"An agreement has been made to settle the position"
"McLaren Racing and Scuderia Toro Rosso confirm they have reached an agreement to settle the position of Mr James Key,"
"Who will be released by Scuderia Toro Rosso prior to the end of his existing contract arrangement on 23 March 2019."
As stated, McLaren has negotiated an early release for James Key, and a final agreement with Toro Rosso has now been made.
McLaren had announced last year that in July, that James Key, who then worked for Toro Rosso, had agreed leave his role at the Faenza based team, in order to work at McLaren.
James Key began his Formula 1 career with Jordan in 1997 as Data Engineer. He later on joined Toro Rosso in 2012 as Technical Director and served there until 2018.
McLaren had recently witnessed a management reshuffle, with the resigning of Eric Boullier, midway last season, and the appointment of Andreas Seidl (the former Porsche chief) as the Managing Director of McLaren. James Key will be another fresh addition to the management hierarchy, as the British team eyes a return to the upper echelons of Formula 1.
