Reigning MotoGP champion and Repsol Honda rider Marc Marquez was quickest in opening practice session of Argentina Grand Prix, 0.353s quicker than his closest competitor Jack Miller on Ducati.
The Spaniard was chased by a number of riders during the sessions as he dipped under 1:40 mark.
He then went on to set couple of fastest laps before the chequered flag, first setting a 1:39.885s in dying moments of the session and then improving to 1:39.827s after the chequered flag, extending his gap from Miller.
Cal Crutchlow was third on the other Honda, setting second quickest time before the chequered flag but beaten by Miller by just three-hundredths of a second.
Franco Morbidelli was quickest Yamaha rider for Yamaha SRT, 0.492s shy of Crutchlow to slot into fourth place. Completing the top 6 with just six-tenth separating, Andrea Iannone and Johann Zarco rounded fifth and sixth positions for Aprilia and KTM Factory Team.
Ducati's Andrea Dovizioso was seventh quickest as his teammate crashed early in the session, claiming 20th. Completing the Top 10 was Fabio Quartararo on sister Yamaha SRT, ahead of Alex Rins, who was the fastest of Suzukis, while Valentino Rossi was exactly 1 second behind Marc Marquez in 10th place.
Marquez's teammate Jorge Lorenzo was 14th fastest, more than one and a half second adrift from his teammate as he continues to find pace in the new team and recovers from his injuries sustained last year in Buriram and Qatar earlier this month.
Other than Petrucci, Joan Mir also crashed but got back on bike while Petrucci sat in.
The slowest time of all was set by Hafizh Syahrin, almost 3 seconds slower than the leader in 22nd.

Free Practice 2 will kick off later in the day after Moto3 and Moto2 sessions, at 3:05 pm local time (11:05 pm Pakistan Time).
