
Reigning MotoGP champion and Honda rider Marc Marquez set the fastest lap in second practice session for the season opener in Qatar.
Marquez beat Yamaha's Maverick Vinales late in the session to conceal Johann Zarco's lap record in 2018.
The session was delayed by 5 minutes due to debris on the track caused by Moto2 practice crash of Tom Luthi.
As the session kicked off, Rossi's FP1 time was quickly beaten by Marquez, setting 1:55 on his second lap.
Danilo Petrucci on the Ducati took the top spot from Marquez, but the Spaniard responded back after 1:54. 767s to go to Q2.
Late in the session, Suzuki's Joan Mir dethroned Marquez by 1:54.433s on qualifying simulation.
Alma Pramac's Jack Miller was the next rider to make it to top on fresh sets of soft tyres before Franco Morbidelli took the fastest lap from him.
Andrea Dovizioso was one of the last riders to top the session, before Vinales took the place. But at the end, Marquez topped the session after the chequered flag to set a new lap record of 1:53.380s at Losail International Circuit.
Vinales finished second, almost half a second behind Honda rider.
Jack Miller was third on the Pramac Ducati, ahead of Danilo Petrucci with the Italian 0.528s shy of Marquez's time.
Fabio Quartararo impressed the fans on his debut by going fifth fastest, ahead of Dovizioso and Quartararo's teammate Morbidelli.

Rounding up the Top 10 were Alex Rins, ahead of Aleix Espargaro and Joan Mir.
Jorge Lorenzo was pipped by Alex Rins to 11th place on the Spaniard's debut, 1.048s off the pace.
FP1 topper Valentino Rossi had a tough challenge in FP2, getting nowhere closer to the leaders. He will have to improve his time in final practice session before the two Qualifying sessions.
A notable incident was that of Morbidelli, who crashed early in the session as his bike caught fire. He went out for another soon afterwards after his bike repaired and finished 7th.
