Brendon Hartley is confirmed to join SMP Racing for Sebring after a disappointing first year at Scuderia Toro Rosso in Formula 1.
The 29-year old New Zealander, who won the 2015 and 2017 FIA WEC titles including 2017 24 Hours of Le Mans for Porsche, will replace 2018 Super GT Champion Jenson Button at Sebring and Spa in SMP Racing’s #11 BR1 car, racing alongside Mikhail Aleshin and Vitaly Petrov. Button is unable to make the trip to either Sebring or Spa due to racing commitments elsewhere. However, 2009 Formula 1 champion will return for season finale at Le Mans.

“I’m very pleased to join SMP Racing for the next two WEC races at Sebring and Spa,” Brendon Hartley said on his return. “The team have all the tools and a great driver roster so I think we have a big opportunity to fight for podiums. It marks my return to the WEC and I’m really looking forward to being back in the paddock amongst many familiar faces.”
This news comes after the announcement of Sergey Sirotkin joining the #17 car to replace Matevos Isaakyan alongside Stéphane Sarrazin and Egor Orudzhev.
Meanwhile, it's still unconfirmed if the Kiwi can make debut in Formula E for Porsche, as the German marque is still looking for other options.
