2020 Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo

Ferrari has finally unveiled it's 2nd Evo kit for 488 GT3 since the car's debut in 2016, which will start rolling out on track in 2020 after being made available to customer teams as an all-new car or upgrade kit to existing customers.

Ferrari now becomes the second GT3 manufacturer to confirm a 2020 Evo kit, following Mercedes-AMG that has already raced with it's 2020-spec car at 24 Hours of Portimao.

The car was unveiled at Mugello as part of Ferrari's annual Finali Mondiali event. The Evo version is the result of Ferrari's desire to refine certain aspects of one of the most successful cars in the history of the brand.

Ferrari revealed its first Evo kit for both GT3 and GTE cars last year, while the second Evo update now means that Ferrari won't roll out a new GT3 car till at least 2022 per FIA regulations that allow an Evo kit per three-year homologation period.

Development areas for the 2020 car include improved Aerodynamics, safety and reliability and ergonomics.

The focus has been on stability, that is provided by a new smaller front bumper, with was a result of more than 18000 hours of CFD calculations and simulations followed by wind tunnel tests. The front bumper assures the car is stable without losing any aerodynamic balanced at front. Ventilation vents on the tops of the wings are larger to more effectively channel sideways flows. The aileron vents on the rear wing have also been completely redesigned.

The wheelbase has also longer to optimise tire degradation and wear, while also allowing easy conversion to GTE model for teams running both GT3 and GTE programmes. Weight of the car is slightly decreased to lower the centre of gravity while getting a better offset for Balance of Performance.

Further improvements include a reworked ABS and Traction Control System for the car and a new seat in the cockpit meeting latest FIA safety regulations.

No improvement related to performance have been made to the V8 engine, although a new engine management system now delivers more reliability and precise torque.

The endurance package includes a front bumper incorporating additional headlights, quick couplers for engine oil and coolant, a carbon fiber clutch, GTE brake callipers and steel wheel nuts. Additional features include sensors for coolant level and refueling are optional, as well as 4500 lumen LED headlamps.

Current models of 488 GT3 can be upgraded for next season but no announcement on price or availability has currently been made.
