2-time Formula 1 World Champion Fernando Alonso is interested in adding Supercars' jewel Bathurst 1000 race to his schedule as revealed by Walkinshaw Andretti United co-owner and executive director of McLaren Formula 1 team Zak Brown.

The Spaniard has had a successful career of over 15 years in F1, where he won 2 championships with Renault before and was a title contender with teams like Ferrari and McLaren but retired at the end of 2018, shifting his focus to other races and series.

Alonso also competed in Indy 500 in 2017, only to be disappointed before winning Le Mans in 2018 and then winning 24 Hours of Daytona in January. Other than a full-time entry in FIA WEC, he will also race at this year's Indy 500 with McLaren.

“He's not [had a chance to test the car] but he remains very interested in Bathurst,” said Brown of Alonso at Albert Park.

"He wants to go and win all the big races, and he considers Bathurst to be one of those.

“I don't think you'll see him in 2019 but I wouldn't rule him out for the future.”

“He wants to do all of the big races. He's ticked the 24 Hours of Daytona box now, and he considers Bathurst to be a major sporting event.

“He thinks the cars are cool, almost had a go but we ran out of petrol.

“I wouldn't be surprised to see him in one of our cars in the future.

The Walkinshaw Andretti team is not only having Fernando Alonso as possible wildcard entry, with IndyCar stars Ryan Hunter-Reay and Alexander Rossi also eager to race.
