7-time Bathurst 1000 winner and Triple V8 Supercars champion Craig Lowndes will receive the honours to join Australian Motorsports Hall of Fame due to his dedication and long-time commitment to Australian motorsports.

The Supercars ace retired from racing after 2018, joining Fox Sports Television team for 2019 Supercars season alongside former V8 Supercars driver Mark Skaife and Jessica Yates, replacing Russell Ingall. He is also five-times Barry Sheene medalist for his positive impact on Australian racing.
“It’s great to be nominated for the Australian Motor Sport Hall of Fame,” said Lowndes.
“You don’t get into the business for these sorts of awards, but it’s nice to be recognised for what we’ve done, what we’ve achieved and what you give back to the sport.
“It is always right to give back as much as you take out.
“I haven’t actually been to the Hall of Fame dinner before because I have always still been at Albert Park racing or working with my engineers, so I am really looking forward to it.
“I know there’s been some great people before me that have been nominated. It’s an honour to be part of that list that includes some of the most iconic names in the sport.”
Most recently, the 44-year old raced earlier this month at Bathurst 12 Hours, joining Jamie Whincup and Shane van Gisbergen in Triple-Eight Vodafone Mercedes.

Despite his full-time retirement from racing duties, he will continue as a co-driver for Red Bull Holden team, joining his former teammate Jamie Whincup in the Enduro Cup, including Bathurst 1000.

Lowndes will be inducted into Hall of Fame on 15th of March, ahead of Australian Grand Prix. The Aussie joins many other Australian racing legeds, including Formula 1 legend Sir Jack Brabham and Alan Jones as well as Mark Skaife, Mick Doohan AM and Lowndes' racing mentor, Peter Brock.
