ByKolles is quite sure about joining the Hypercar class in 2020, as told by Team Principal Manfredi Ravetto in an interview.
Following the announcement of explained technical regulations for ACO and FIA's Hypercar class in 2020 last week, the German Team is planning to join the top class, aiming for victories and dominance. ByKolles made its WEC debut in 2012, starting as LMP2 and then joining LMP1 in 2014 with its CLM P1/01 car. The team is certain about joining the to-be-named project in 2020-21 Superseason.
“We want to be there and we’re already working on it. Now we have to deal with our business partners,” said Ravetto in an interview with Endurance-Info.
He also praised the ACO and FIA's commitment to cost controls and introducing a level-playing field for all the teams.
ByKolles's announcement means it's only the second team now to confirm 2020 Hypercar plans, after Glickenhaus announced it's plans to debut with a car identical to SCG007. Toyota is also rumoured to be joining the team, being the only factory LMP1 team. A further involvement of Aston Martin was hinted few times by Analysts and Experts.
But the real question is, can they perform any better? Probably. There will be a fixed budget for development that might make the privateers and factory teams closer. But the team has had bad performance, having several failures and reliability issues in its Endurance history. But it can change as well. Only time will tell.
