Qualifying Report: Verstappen claims pole ahead of Ferrari duo as Bottas crashes out

Ferrari looked like the favourites to claim pole position but RedBull and Max Verstappen stole the spotlight for what was an unexpected result Q1: After their hydraulic issues earlier in the day, Renault finished the session P10 and P12 courtesy of Daniel Riccardo and Nico Hulkenberg respectively.

Both Haas drivers finished 17th and 18th ahead of the Williams of Russell and Kubica. Meanwhile Lance Stroll couldn't manage to get into Q2 despite his best efforts. Honda powered cars had a good session with both Toro Rosso's in the Top 10 and the RedBulls of Verstappen and Albon topping the timesheets ahead of Charles Leclerc's Ferrari with Hamilton and Vettel rounding up the Top 5 respectively. All eyes were on home hero Sergio Perez to deliver a good result in front of his home crowd but sadly he had to settle for P11 missing out on Q3 by a mere 8 milliseconds.

McLaren showed yet another decent performance as the track started to improve in the latter part of the session with Sainz and Norris finishing the session P6 and P7 respectively.

The Top 3 teams opted to start the race on the Yellow striped tyres going for a longer first stint as tyre management will be key during tomorrow's Grand Prix

Q3:

Ferrari were expected to dominate the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez and things seemed to have been going to plan as Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc had both Mercedes covered until Max Verstappen set a stellar lap of a 1:14:910 on his first attempt. a tenth faster than Leclerc and nearly half a second ahead of his teammate in P5. It all started to happen at the final runs when Valtteri Bottas lost control of his W10 At the final corner which affected people behind him who were aiming to challenge Verstappen's time. Sebastian Vettel backed out of his lap due to double yellow flags thus finishing P3 behind his Teammate Charles Leclerc in P2. Hamilton and Albon completed the top 5 spots. Sainz finished best of the rest ahead of his teammate Lando Norris ahead of both Toro Rosso's of Kvyat and Gasly
