Wolff: Every championship seems like the hardest

Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff believes that his team's 2019 titular triumph wasn't among the easiest ones. Wolff also said that this season had its fair share of "up and downs" however, Mercedes always managed to commit fewer mistakes than their rivals.

Mercedes won a record breaking 6 consecutive double world titles this year under the leadership of Toto Wolff.
"Every championship seems like the hardest"

"It may be because we are protected by our memory, but certainly this year had its up and downs." were the words of Toto Wolff.

"We came out of the block very strong, didn't have the quickest package on Saturday for a long time,"

"But we [were] able to make the least mistakes on Sunday,"

"That was probably the biggest key to making us win the championship." added the German.

While talking to motorsport.com, Wolff mentioned the team's spectacular 1-2 finish at the recent US Grand Prix at Austin, an occasion that also stood witness to Lewis Hamilton claiming his 6th world title as well as Bottas securing a much needed pole on Saturday.

While Mercedes started the season in a dominant fashion, with a streak of back to back victories beginning at the season-opening round in Australia, Ferrari gained its momentum back after the summer break.

The resurgent Italian giant then went on to win consecutive races in Belgium, Italy and Singapore. Mercedes' domination was also halted by Red Bull, who managed to win a couple of races in Austria as well as Germany, that marked Mercedes' 125 years of presence in motorsport.

"For me the highlight is Austin," stated Wolff. "We came back to old form, winning the title decider with Valtteri, and winning the championship with Lewis with strong pace."

"We like the fight a lot," reaffirmed Toto, who reckons that Mercedes is never rattled by increased competition after years of absolute domination.

"You can see, [we] celebrate the races that are really tough and are able to win.

"Everybody wants to see a fight out there,"

"This is what keeps us going.

"When we don't qualify on pole but we are able to win the race on Sunday I get 10 times the amount of [messages] than I get if we're on pole.

"So we need these guys strong, competitive, playing with the same rules, and then it's what we love doing."
