The former 3 times world champion was admitted in intensive care unit in a hospital in Vienna after he contracted influenza while holidaying in Ibiza with his family.

Niki Lauda won 3 world championships with McLaren and Ferrari.

It was confirmed by the hospital that the Austrian F1 legend has been discharged after treatment for influenza.

Niki Lauda had a lung transplant last year due to which he was hospitalized for a long time and he was unable to attend any races in the second half of the 2018 season.

Once healthy again, Lauda then traveled to Ibiza in order to spend Christmas with his family. He contracted influenza while vacationing there and had to return to Vienna to undergo treatment.

Niki Lauda is still anticipated to be present at the winter testing in Barcelona next month and he might as well attend the season opening Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.

The 69 years old Austrian is widely recognized as a Formula 1 legend. Lauda won three world championships with both the prestigious outfits, McLaren and Ferrari. He also ventured into the aviation business, forming his own airline.

He currently serves as the Non-Executive Chairman of Mercedes-AMG, and in 2012, he played an influential role in the signing of the 5 times world champion, Lewis Hamilton.
