Monza currently hosts the Italian Grand Prix until 2019. A deal to secure its future for 2020 and beyond hasn't been agreed upon yet.

It's been reported that Monza might have one of its chicanes removed while the 2nd Lesmo could be widened and revamped among several other changes worth 100 million Euros planned for the 100th anniversary of the legendary track in 2022.

As per the reports, plans are being considered to remove a chicane, most likely the Variante Roggia (2nd chicane) after Curva Grande. The 2nd Lesmo will be revamped to make it faster than it is now. It was modified in 1994 in the aftermath of the Senna tragedy in Imola. A new grand stand as well as widening of the track, new access roads and possible decrement and renovation of the old banking is also being planned.

President of the Italian Racing Federation ACI, Angelo Sticchi Damiani expressed his desire for several changes to the circuit for 2022, so that Monza retains its legacy of being the 'Temple of Speed'.

The notorious old banking of Monza. The banking hasn't been used officially in decades.

According to Damiani, a completely renovated banking will keep Monza a popular attraction. Notably, it will make the circuit as long as 10 kilometers. Damiani believes that the massive expenditure of a 100 million Euros can be covered by the local as well as national governments. Speaking to Gazzetto dello Sport he said, “The money will be found in some way.”

It is worth mentioning here that Monza is yet to secure its future on the Formula 1 calendar beyond the upcoming 2019 season. The Liberty Media hasn't reached an agreement with the Monza authorities for 2020 and beyond. The legendary circuit will be celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2022.
