The Formula 3 Champion and son of the 7-time F1 World Champion Mick Schumacher has joined the Ferrari driver academy, reported by various sources.

The 19-year old German driver will drive for Prema in 2019, the team with which he won F3 Championship.

As a part of his duties, he is set to take part in 2 F1 tests in 2019.

The report is yet to be confirmed, but several Italian sources close to the team reported about the move.

Mick Schumacher would be the third F1 driver to carry the "Schumacher" name into F1 after his father Michael Schumacher and his uncle Ralf Schumacher.

Several drivers, most notably Anton up Giovinazzi, Charles Leclerc and Jules Bianchi all progressed through the academy.

While Schumacher is very close to join the driver academy, former Sauber driver Pascal Wehrlein will work with the team on Ferrari's simulator, replacing Daniil Kvyat for 2019.
