Mexico-City EPRIX: FP1 Report

Writer: Muhammad Humais Muhammad Humais

It was 7:30 AM in Mexico City when FP1 kicked off. The weather clear and it was mostly sunny. The temperature was 12° with the highest temperature of the day to go above 25° C.

Daniel Abt finished first in FP1.

The drivers were allowed to use 250 kW in free practice 1 but in the last 15 minutes. The attack mode was place between turns 8 and 9 at the beautiful ‘Stadium Section’ of the circuit. Guenther was replaced by ex-F1 driver, Felipe Nasr, who was debuting today with Geox Dragon. Session started at 18:30 PM (Pakistani Standard Time). Daniel Abt was the first to set a lap of 1:04.526. After setting a fastest lap, there was an FCY because there were pebbles on the track which were hitting the bottom of car and caused many drivers to understeer and miss the turn/chicane. Many drivers were under investigation for speeding under the FCY including Dillmann, Lotterer and Lopez. Many drivers also locked up their tyres trying to get every bit from their car at turn 1.

Vandoorne’s teammate, Gary Paffett drove himself into the barrier while trying to use full power, 250 kW, to set the fastest lap. He retired after breaking the rear-left suspension. Lucas Di Grassi set the fastest lap of 59.397 with just 3 minutes remaining but just seconds later Edoardo Mortara in his Venturi set a lap time of 59.613.
