Speaking to Simon Lazenby and Nico Rosberg of Sky Sports F1, Verstappen told that he is not worried about the reliability of the Honda engine for as long as the engine proves to be fast enough to guarantee him race wins.

Red Bull will be using Honda power for the 2019 season after a bitter divorce from previous partners, Renault. The French manufacturer supplied Red Bull with engines for 12 years. The partnership witnessed considerable success and at times, dominance from 2010 to 2013, racking up 4 drivers' titles as well as 8 constructors' titles. However, Renault failed to produce a decent engine in the Hybrid era and has since, struggled to catch up Mercedes and Ferrari.

Speaking of the Honda engine, Verstappen told Sky Sports F1 that "I think this year has already been pretty good." He then continued, "They have taken a lot of engines just because they could, because they were at the back or something happened."

Verstappen further added to his comments that "I prefer, maybe, to win a race and then blow up in one than be consistently slow."

Honda on the other hand went through miserable 3 seasons with McLaren, enduring numerous retirements and finishes outside of the points. Both the companies parted their ways at the end of 2017 as McLaren signed a deal with Renault for a supply until 2020.

Red Bull strongly believes that Honda has more horse power than Renault and it will help them to fight Mercedes and Ferrari. Honda has been supplying the sister team, Toro Rosso with engines for a year already, which made all the technical data available to Red Bull engineers. Verstappen feels confident for as long as the Honda engine keeps producing more power, he doesn't care much if it 'blows up'.

The young Dutchman said "It all looks very promising but I want to be realistic"

"First, we still need to build a car, and then the engine should be reliable as well, and powerful."

It is also expected that the famous aerodynamicist, Adrian Newey is actively involved in designing the chassis for 2019 to which Max responded "It's a very good thing."

Toro Rosso (Red Bull junior team) partnered with Honda for the 2018 season.

Toro Rosso has had more retirements due to the engine woes than any other team on the grid in 2018. The Honda engine has yet to prove its reliability given that one of the cars powered by a Honda retired in the season ending Abu Dhabi GP.
