The F1 legend unfortunately has hit yet another block in the path to his full recovery after undergoing a heavy double lung transplant last summer.

Lauda was diagnosed with a critical medical condition which led to his heavy surgery in July, in the aftermath, he was unable to attend the rest of the races of the 2018 season. The Austrian serves in the capacity of Non-Executive Chairman at Mercedes AMG team in Formula 1.

Although, the lung transplant was deemed a success and Lauda was discharged later on. Niki then kept recovering in the following months and even recently indicated that he would soon begin walking on his own and might as well attend the Australian Grand Prix in March. Lauda said:

"At the end of January, I'm throwing away the walker"

But the very recent reports in the Austrian press are now suggesting the otherwise. Lauda was healthy enough to be able to travel to Ibiza and celebrate the Christmas with his family there. But the 3 times world champion is said to have contracted a flu virus which has impacted his recovery heavily.

Lauda will be turning 70 next month and he was highly expected to attend the upcoming season opener in Melbourne and be spotted in the Mercedes garage. But unluckily, this might have to be delayed now until the health of the F1 legends gets better again as he keeps recovering.
