Lewis Hamilton topped a poll conducted by the official F1 website with Max Verstappen being voted 2nd and Fernando Alonso voted as the 3rd best driver of the year.

The official F1 site conducted the innaugural Driver's Driver of the Year poll with each participating driver having to chose his top 10 drivers of the season.
All the participants were allowed to vote for themselves as well and their top 10 lists are kept a secret. The voting system was based on the official F1 points scoring system with the top driver earning 25 points and the last driver (10th) earning 1 point. The points were then combined to evaluate the final top 10 ranking as per formula1.com.
Lewis Hamilton, who wrapped up his 5th world championship this season in a dramatic style with 11 wins, 11 poles and 17 podiums across the season that spanned up to 21 races, won the poll as well. The British 5 times world champion has been accumulating laurels, one after another.
The young Dutchman, Max Verstappen was voted second in the list by his fellow drivers. Verstappen managed to put in some strong and spectacular performances in the second half of the season; after bouncing back from a retirement filled, dismal first half. He racked up 11 podiums and 2 wins over the course of the 2018 season.

The now retired Spanish ace, Fernando Alonso ranked 3rd in the poll given his commendable performances and heartfelt efforts with a car that was far from even being called mediocre. Alonso managed to pull some sumptuous results for McLaren in scenarios where it seemed the most unlikely. He also out-qualified his teammate, Stoffel Vandoorne by a clear margin of 21-0 throughout the season.
In total 17 drivers participated in the poll, including Fernando Alonso, Marcus Ericsson, Pierre Gasly, Romain Grosjean, Brendon Hartley, Charles Leclerc, Kevin Magnussen, Esteban Ocon, Sergio Perez, Kimi Raikkonen, Daniel Ricciardo, Carlos Sainz, Marcus Ericsson, Lance Stroll, Stoffel Vandoorne, Max Verstappen and Sebastian Vettel.
While Hamilton went on to cement himself among the top three most successful drivers in F1 history and Verstappen finished a strong 4th in the standings, Alonso had to settle for the 11th spot in the drivers' table given the poor and desolate pace of his MCL33.
The complete top 10 ranking is as follows:
Lewis Hamilton
Max Verstappen
Fernando Alonso
Sebastian Vettel
Daniel Ricciardo
Charles Leclerc
Pierre Gasly
Nico Hulkenberg
Kimi Raikkonen
Sergio Perez
