Lewis Hamilton says that it is 'unfair' to put so much pressure on Charles Leclerc, who will drive alongside Sebastian Vettel this year.
Hamilton compared Leclerc's scenario to his own when he debuted with McLaren, paired with then 2 times world champion, Fernando Alonso.
Hamilton said, "I was in the same position at McLaren (with Alonso) so it will be interesting to see,"
Charles Leclerc marked his F1 debut in 2018 with Sauber, and quickly justified all the hype that surrounded him. With several points finishes across the season, Leclerc easily outmatched his more experienced teammate, Marcus Ericsson.
The Monegasque is a graduate of the Ferrari Drivers Academy and also won the 2017 Formula 2 title.
It has widely been expected that Leclerc will give Vettel some serious competition during his first year at Ferrari. Vettel, who is a 4 times world champion, lost the title battle to Lewis Hamilton last season. A spree of both driver and strategic errors were to blame for the loss.
The 5 times world champion continued saying:
"It is unfair to put so much pressure on Leclerc"
"It's just his second year. He has already shown that he is fast, he surprised many people, but next to him now is a four-time world champion with a lot of experience.
"The only way to get experience is to get experience,"
"The interesting thing will be to see how the two of them work together.
"Sebastian is a multi-time champion but Charles will bring a lot of energy to the relationship." said Hamilton.
