5 times F1 world champion, Lewis Hamilton believes that Mercedes could be weaker this year with the dawn of new and simplified aerodynamics regulations for the 2019 season and beyond. Such a weakness may end the dominant run of the Silver Arrows and diminish any hopes of winning a 6th consecutive world title.

British F1 ace, Lewis Hamilton won his 5th world championship at the end of 2018 season.

Hamilton, who won his 4th world championship in 5 years with Mercedes, hinted out at the possibility that there can be other teams capitalizing on the fresh regulations. In a reminiscence of the 2009 F1 season, every team has the potential to exploit any loopholes it may discover.

Hamilton has been highly supportive of his team in public but he has expressed his concerns that any change in approach towards the development of their car in 2019, could derail them from the track to winning yet another pair of world titles.

Hamilton commended his employers by stating, "If you look at the team's performance on the race weekend, that our mechanics, our engineers, strategists, we've all raised our game"

Hamilton further continued and said:

"For next year's car, I have an idea where the weak spot will be with these rule changes. So I'm confident."

The new aerodynamics regulations for 2019 include a simplified front wing to make the airflow smoother. A wider rear wing, simplified barge boards as well as removal of winglets from brake ducts. These changes are being implemented in order to increase slipstreaming and overtaking without decreasing the downforce.

"As long as Mercedes don't change their approach, don't change their desire to win. As long as they don't do that, I believe that we'll be able to stay on this path and continue to fight at the top".  said Lewis Hamilton.

For now, it is yet to be seen if both Mercedes and Ferrari carry on to occupy the upper echelons of the F1 circus or whether the two giants are dethroned from top by a new competitor.

It is worth noticing that Ferrari recently had a leadership change while Renault has confirmed to have gained big advantage in engine development. Red Bull is also joining forces with new partner, Honda.

In such circumstances, any team can replicate the success story of Brawn GP from 2009.
