FP1: Verstappen Tops the Table in Austin

It was cold in Austin, Texas with a temperature of 8.6°C and a track temperature of 14.1°C. Humidity was recorded at 42% at the start of FP1.


REPORT


It was Max Verstappen of Red Bull that was at the top of the timesheet at the end of FP1 in the USA. He set a lap time of 1m 34.057s on soft tyres.

He was followed by Sebastian Vettel and Alexander Albon in 2nd and 3rd respectively. Vettel set a lap time of 1m 34.226s on soft tyres and Max’s teammate Albon set a lap time of 1m 34.316s on soft tyres.


It was Toro Rosso’s Pierre Gasly who was the best of the rest in 4th, he set a lap time 1m 35.008s on soft tyres. Daniel Riccardo and Romain Grosjean were 5th and 6th respectively, setting their fastest lap on Pirelli’s soft compound.

Title Contender Lewis Hamilton finished just 8th on soft tyres. The championship leader was testing Pirelli’s 2020 tyres. His lap time was deleted for running wide.


Hamilton’s race engineer was supposed to return at the 2019 Brazilian Grand Prix but he was back and helping Lewis Hamilton.
