Charles on Top at the End of FP1

A partly cloudy day at the Bahrain International Circuit with air temperature of 28°C and track temperature of 46°C. The track was really dusty at the start of FP1.

Red Bull of Max Verstappen was the first to go out and clear the dust from the track. Max Verstappen had some hydraulic issues with his steering wheel and came back to the pits.

Charles Leclerc of Mission Winnow Scuderia Ferrari was the fastest of all in FP1. He set a fastest lap of 1m30.354s on C3 tyres, the one with red stripes.


Charles said, “I don't think it's the real performance of the car what we have shown in Australia and I think we are all quite confident that we can be better… in Bahrain”.

Behind Charles was his 4-times F1 World Champion Sebastian Vettel. Sebastian set a fastest lap of 1m30.617s, just 2 tenths behind his teammate.

2019 Australian GP winner Valtteri Bottas was third with a lap time of 1m31.328s. Behind him was the defending world champion Lewis Hamilton. Lewis set a lap time of 1m31.601s.

McLaren’s Carlos Sainz Jr. was best of the rest behind the Red Bull of Pierre Gasly. Carlos set a fastest lap time of 1m31.952s.


Williams had a disappointing FP1, finishing 19th and 20th. They also are lacking some spare parts coming to the weekend.


Many drivers had a moment at turn 4 with Stroll spinning and hitting the wall. Luckily, he lost the front-end plate of his front wing. He rushed to the pits anyway.

Lewis Hamilton was chasing his teammate’s fastest lap when he went wide at turn 14 and slowed down.


Kimi Raikkonen had a moment with both Lando Norris and Alexander Albon, both trying to fight with the Iceman and Kimi getting angry.


Nico Hulkenberg and Antonio Giovinazzi had a moment at turn 6 when they both collided with each other. The Renault driver went into the air after hitting Giovinazzi.


Romain Grosjean was the only driver who used too much kerb at turn 7 and eventually broke his front wing, he locked up at turn 8 but managed to save himself going off-track.
