Brabham was among the successful teams to have ever raced in F1 in the 60s to the early 80s. However its competitiveness drowned slowly until disappearing completely from '93 onward.
Many attempts have been made to bring the name back in to the sport, but turned out not many were successful.
The team's founder's son, David Brabham, revealed to Motorsport.com here that many parties were interested to bring the name back by buying an existing team and using it in Formula 1 again. However many individuals had the enthusiasm to bring forth such a legendary name back, but not many were willing to invest into it either.
"...if I told you how many people contacted us and said they're going to buy an F1 team and wanted to call it Brabham: it's a long list. But guess what, nobody was ever able to buy the team. At first you get quite excited by it but after a while you learn. It came to a point where you learned your lessons, and you're like 'prove you've got the funds'. Then it didn't waste our time as much."

Not many examples are needed to explain the situation around the sport. Ever since the hybrid era began in 2014, many of the slower teams were disappearing as costs sky rocketed. Caterham, Manor Racing and Marussia are one of the keen examples to this as the seasons progressed.
It's clear at this point why such a name like Brabham is being resisted to join F1 back again because its basically given a warning signs to the teams that left the sport.
Instead, David has acquired the rights of the name back in 2013 and is targeting WEC program with their road going car, the BT62. Following the new regulations on the WEC series, it has given Brabham a head start to use one of their existing asset, in this case, their all new road car, to be used in endurance racing to resume motorsport activity again.
